The Titans were 3-0 and have a lot of speed and size. Their
first-team defense has allowed only one touchdown so far this year
and only 83 rushing yards in their first three games combined.
Lincoln would have their hands full trying to move the ball on
this tough and stingy defense. And, they would also have to figure
out a way to contain Division I recruit Daniel Helm. Helm has
already committed to play for the Tennessee Volunteers next year and
is ranked one of the top tight ends in the nation.
The Railers are still short on some of their key positions, due
to injuries, and would once again have to plug kids in to compete
throughout the game.
The Titans would get things going right off the bat as Matt
Banaitis hooked up with Helm for a 3-yard touchdown pass to give the
Titans the early lead. And that would really be all they needed, due
to Lincoln's inability to get anything going on offense.
The Titans would score three more times in the first quarter to
take a 28-0 lead. They would add three more touchdowns in the second
quarter to take a 48-0 lead into halftime.
[to top of second column] |
In high school there is a mercy rule that states, when a team
is up by 30 or more in the second half, the time will not stop
unless on a touchdown, injury or timeout. So, needless to say,
the second half flew by.
The Railers were able to put some points on the board with 3:13
left in the third, when Austin Krusz threw a 5-yard touchdown pass
to wide receiver Will Cook. The PAT by Grant Cooper was good to make
the score 48-7.
The Titans would follow up with a score of their own with 4:41
left in the ballgame.
The final score: Glenwood 54, Lincoln 7.
The Railers travel to Springfield next Friday to take on the
Senators. The Senators are 1-4, with their only win coming against
the Lanphier Lions. The Railers hope to have a lot of their original
starters back in the lineup. Tim Jackson says he will be back, as
well as Wes White, and Adam Conrady is to make his season debut.
