[April 11, 2014]  Being admitted to the hospital can create anxieties for adults and be even more intimidating for children. The ALMH Auxiliary welcomed local children to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital during the months of March and April to show them that a hospital stay doesn’t need to be frightening. The final tour day was Thursday.

Second-grade students from around the county visited various departments in the hospital, including dietary, rehab, laundry, laboratory and radiology. Highlights of the visits included a trip into the freezer, a mock stay in a patient room and of course, the helipad. The students also enjoyed tours of an ambulance provided by the Logan County Paramedic Association. Each group was guided by a member of the ALMH Auxiliary.

"The ALMH Auxiliary members truly enjoy sharing the day with the children. The children are always very curious and eager to learn about how the hospital works," said Lynne Metz, manager of volunteer and special services.

Carroll Catholic student Ella wrote a thank-you note for her experience:

Dear Hospital Workers,

Thank you for showing us the pool. I liked the big lab. I liked the X-rays. I think you are very, very, brave.

God Bless,
Ella
