Crawford Blast Lifts Giants To 10-Inning Win Over Rockies

[April 14, 2014]  Giants 5, Rockies 4 (10): Brandon Crawford led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a home run to lift San Francisco to a series win over visiting Colorado.

Crawford, who also had a sacrifice fly, yanked a 1-0 fastball from Rex Brothers (1-1) into McCovey Cove for his first career walk-off homer and his first home run of the year. Pablo Sandoval also homered and Angel Pagan had two hits and two RBIs for the Giants, who saw starter Tim Hudson give up four runs in 7 1/3 innings.

Justin Morneau slugged his first home run with the Rockies and DJ LeMahieu had an RBI double and scored the tying run in the eighth. Starter Tyler Chatwood gave up four runs and six hits in six innings while striking out five in his first start of the season after being activated from the disabled list.

Wilin Rosario's first homer of the year in the second inning gave Colorado an early 1-0 lead but Pagan capped a three-run fifth with a base hit to score a pair and Sandoval went deep in the sixth for a 4-1 lead. Morneau took Hudson out to center in the seventh and LeMahieu made it 4-3 with his RBI double before coming in on Drew Stubbs' base hit to left one inning later.

Gregor Blanco tripled off the right-field wall with two outs in the ninth and tried to score when right fielder Michael Cuddyer had trouble picking up the ball, but was out on a perfect relay to force extra innings. Sergio Romo (1-0) got a double play to end the top of the 10th before Crawford ended it with his first home run at home since April 23, 2013.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Giants 2B Brandon Hicks was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. ... Hudson, who allowed two earned runs in 15 2/3 innings over his first two starts, struck out five and did not walk a batter. ... Colorado opens a four-game series in San Diego on Monday, while San Francisco has a day off before hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers.
