[April 22, 2014]  (The Sports Xchange) — The New York Giants officially signed quarterback Josh Freeman on Monday.

Freeman, a former first-round draft pick, played last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo participated in offseason team activities with the team as he celebrated his 34th birthday and continues to recover from season-ending back surgery in December.

Romo missed the Week 17 finale after injuring his back a week earlier at Washington and required surgery to alleviate a disk issue. He lifted weights and was cleared to run.

___

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton said he is expecting a long-term contract extension because he is the face of the franchise.

Dalton has one year left on his rookie contract that pays him nearly $1.7 million this year. The contract, as a whole, is worth $5.2 million.

___

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Rolando McClain is retiring for a second time. McClain was due to report to the Baltimore Ravens for the first day of the team's offseason workout program, but decided not to return.

In a text message to ESPN.com, McClain wrote: "I gotta follow my heart. It ain't football. If football made me complete I would play. But whenever I think of it my heart pulls me away from whatever reason. ... This means I'm done."

Former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a call in Calabasas at 12:48 a.m. Monday, according to a statement. After determining Johnson and his ex-girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute, Johnson was arrested.

___

The Indianapolis Colts placed center Phil Costa on their reserve/retired list. The 26-year-old Costa had just signed a two-year deal with the Colts in March, so his retirement came as a surprise.

Previously, Costa played four years with the Cowboys where he started 20 of 26 games over the past four seasons. However, he played only 120 snaps last season due to a back injury that eventually landed him on injured reserve.

The Chicago Bears signed wide receiver Josh Morgan to a one-year contract.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Morgan has appeared in 79 games with 54 starts in six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers (2008-11) and Washington Redskins (2012-13), hauling in 199 receptions for 2,488 yards (12.5 ypc) and 11 touchdowns.

___

The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed wide receiver Kyle Williams to a one-year contract.

Williams was claimed off of waivers from the San Francisco 49ers in November and played in one game, with no catches, for the Chiefs before tearing the ACL in his left knee. He had 12 receptions for 113 yards before being cut by the 49ers.
