[August 06, 2014]  Aug 5 (The Sports Xchange) - Team USA trimmed its roster to 16 players as it departs Las Vegas training camp and shifts gears to Chicago for workouts and an exhibition showcase with Brazil.

Twelve of those players will make the final roster.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich added longtime WNBA player Becky Hammon to his staff on Tuesday as an assistant coach.

Hammon is finishing her 16th WNBA season overall and her eighth with the San Antonio Stars. She announced last month that she is retiring as a player at the end of the 2014 season.

With LeBron James leading the recruiting effort, the Cleveland Cavaliers are growing optimistic about their chances of signing veteran free agent forward Shawn Marion.

Marion was in Cleveland on Monday, where he was reacquainted with Cavaliers general manager David Griffin. Griffin was in Phoenix when Marion starred for the Phoenix Suns.

Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez has recovered from a broken foot suffered early last season and received clearance to return to the court.

Lopez was injured after playing in only 17 games last season. Before going down, Lopez was off to a hot start, averaging 20.7 points, six rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots in 31.4 minutes.

Golden State Warriors center Marreese Speights was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with suspicion of driving under the influence in Tampa, Fla.,

The second-degree misdemeanor charge came after Speights was pulled over for failure to yield the right of way when exiting a driveway in his 2012 Bentley. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
