[August 06, 2014]  Aug 5 (The Sports Xchange) - Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett was fined and suspended indefinitely for a fight Monday at training camp with rookie first-round pick Kyle Fuller.

Bennett did not practice Tuesday and general manager Phil Emery said the suspension will prevent Bennett from being involved in all team activities.

The Cleveland Browns listed Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback on the first depth chart of the preseason.

Manziel was No. 2, but Browns coach Mike Pettine said the order could change after every game. A starter has yet to be named for Saturday's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions.

New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson was hospitalized Tuesday in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., as a precaution after receiving oxygen.

The 87-year-old Benson has been attending practice at the Saints' new training camp facility in the mountains of West Virginia. "The altitude got to him. He's fine," Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said.

The six-year, $96 contract extension Bengals starting quarterback Andy Dalton signed Monday drew attention to Alex Smith and his contract situation with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The parties have been talking since the first of the year but have not come to an agreement and it appears from the outside to be closer to a stalemate.

The Denver Broncos signed defensive lineman Brian Sanford to a contract on Tuesday.

Sanford played in 12 regular-season games, including one start, and had 13 tackles for the Cleveland Browns in 2011-12 and the Oakland Raiders in 2013.

Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Don Barclay had to be carted off the practice field Tuesday with what the Green Bay Press-Gazette later reported as a torn ACL in his right knee.

That would be a season-ending injury for Barclay, considered the team's top reserve lineman after he started 15 games at right tackle last season when Bryan Bulaga was sidelined because of a torn ACL.

The Cleveland Browns added four players to their roster Tuesday, signing tight ends Martell Webb and Kyle Auffray, linebacker Keith Pough and wide receiver Tim Smith.

With David Wilson's career ended by a neck injury, the New York Giants moved Peyton Hillis up to No. 2 on the depth chart at running back.

The Giants waived Wilson and then placed him on injured reserve Tuesday. The Giants also waived defensive end Kendrick Adams and signed defensive end Israel Idonije and and tight end Jerome Cunningham.

Matt Cassel is the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, at least if you believe the debut preseason depth chart released by head coach Mike Zimmer on Tuesday.

The Vikings drafted Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater at the bottom of the first round in May, and his relentless charge toward the No. 1 job could put him on course to overtake Cassel before the start of the regular season Sept. 7.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed defensive ends Ryne Giddins and James Ruffin, while linebacker Jeremy Grable (injury) and safety Mycal Swaim were placed on waivers. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
