[August 15, 2014]  LINCOLN - This is the final day to become involved in a free training program designed to prepare individuals for jobs with local, Logan County manufacturers. The program is being offered to people in Logan County who are unemployed or under-employed. Interviews to determine eligibility will start taking place next week. To be considered for participation in the program, contact Larry Peterson, Project Manager, Accelerated Training for Illinois Manufacturing (ATIM) at 217-820-0577 or at: larryp62568@yahoo.com

Heartland Community College, the Accelerated Training for Illinois Manufacturers (ATIM) program, and the Lincoln/Logan County Development Partnership have collaborated to design and deliver this special manufacturing skills training program for qualifying individuals in Logan County and throughout Central Illinois. The program selects individuals to receive “paid for” specialized training based on the needs of local employers. This training is in response to the growing “skills gap” identified by area manufacturers. The training program focuses on industry recognized skill training, as well as on-the-job training designed to produce employees who are ready for work on day one.

Training is anticipated to begin the first week in September.

Prior work experience in manufacturing is helpful, but not required. Financial support for the ATIM program is provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity using federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds.
