[August 18, 2014]  Aug 17 (The Sports Xchange) - Atlanta Falcons left tackle Sam Baker will miss the 2014 season after leaving Saturday night's preseason game against the Houston Texans with a torn patella tendon in his right knee.

Baker's injury is a big setback for the Falcons' offensive line. It could also hasten the move of No. 6 overall pick Jake Matthews to left tackle. Matthews had been slated to start at right tackle during his rookie season.

Rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater set franchise preseason passing records while leading the Minnesota Vikings from behind twice in the fourth quarter of Saturday night's last-minute 30-28 victory over the Cardinals at TCF Bank Stadium.

And yet the rookie first-round draft pick remains far from overtaking veteran Matt Cassel in their competition for the starting quarterback job.

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Dekoda Watson could make his preseason debut this Friday at the Detroit Lions after being activated from the physically unable to perform list.

Watson has not practiced since OTAs early in the spring due to a groin injury. He had surgery after signing with the Jaguars, but needed another procedure in June after developing scar tissue.

Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins has bruised ribs. He left Saturday's exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Steelers early on and did not return.

"They're going to run tests and everything and we'll see how he is," coach Doug Marrone said.

The Cincinnati Bengals waived first-year guard Chandler Burden. He signed with the Bengals in June and played two exhibition games.

The Oakland Raiders signed free agent tight end Kyle Auffray. He signed with the New England Patriots in June and was waived later in the month, before being signed and waived by the Cleveland Browns this month. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
