[August 19, 2014]  NORMAL - Joann Goetzinger: Sculptural Drawings will be on display August 18 through October 10 in the Joe McCauley Gallery, located in Room 2507 of the Instructional Commons Building (ICB) on Heartland’s Normal campus, 1500 W. Raab Road. An artist talk will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 9 in ICB 2805 with a reception to follow from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the gallery.

In her Sculptural Drawings series, Goetzinger combines two and three-dimensional materials to imaginatively translate elements of vocal music into a visual form. She uses aluminum and wood to sculpt abstract, biomorphic forms and then adds colorful lines and shapes with acrylic paint to increase their visual animation. Her works actively engage interplay between positive shape and negative space, both within the piece and against the gallery walls.

Exhibits, events, and parking at Heartland’s Joe McCauley Gallery are free. Gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on days the College is open.
