[August 21, 2014]  CHESTNUT - Gene Byrne, 86, passed away at 4:25 a.m. on August 18, 2014 at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski

Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Obituary

Gene Byrne, 86, passed away at 4:25 a.m. on August 18, 2014 at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Gene was born on October 4, 1927 in Maroa son of Ernest U. and Clara Myers Byrne. He married Lois Hahn on January 19, 1951 in Mount Pulaski; she survives him in Chestnut.

Also surviving Gene is his daughter: Sherie Ross of Waynesville; granddaughter: Shelley (Andy) Jun of Bloomington; three great-grandchildren: Rebekah, Luke, and Adam Jun. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Vivian Armstrong, and brother: Vernie Byrne.

Gene Served in The United States Army through 1946 to 1947. Gene was a heavy equipment operator for Austin Township for 28 years; he worked at R & W Howe Excavating, and owned and operated Gene’s Radio. He was a member of Chestnut United Methodist Church and was on the Chestnut Fire Department for 40 years. Gene was a Trustee for Aetna Township. 

Services for Gene will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday August 21, 2014 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski,, with Rev. Rachel Stockle officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday August 20, 2014 also at the funeral home. Burial at Laenna Cemetery in Chestnut will follow the service, where full military rites will be accorded. Memorials may be given to the Chestnut United Methodist Church, Chestnut EMS, or Chestnut Fire Department.
