[August 27, 2014]  Aug 26 (The Sports Xchange) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday acquired New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins in exchange for tight end Tim Wright and an undisclosed draft pick.

A three-time captain with the Patriots, Mankins has earned six Pro Bowl berths and five All-Pro selections in his career. He also was selected to the New England Patriots All-2000s and 50th Anniversary teams.

Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather will appeal his two-game ban that the NFL levied for his latest helmet-to-helmet blow. called a "legitimate football play."

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, who called the hit a "legitimate football play," is hoping that the league will reduce or revoke the penalty.

The Seattle Seahawks placed linebacker Heath Farwell, cornerback A.J. Jefferson and guard C.J. Davis on injured reserve, designated defensive tackle Michael Brooks, wide receiver David Gilreath and linebacker Horce Miller as waived/injured, and put cornerback Eric Pinkins on the reserve/non-football injury list.

The Oakland Raiders placed cornerback D.J. Hayden on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

Hayden underwent surgery on his right foot in July after suffering a stress fracture and will sit out at least the first six games of the regular season.

Josh Gordon's hearing on a DWI case in North Carolina was delayed until Nov. 18 after the Cleveland Browns wide receiver received a waiver.

Gordon was driving a vehicle owned by Charlotte Hornets rookie P.J. Hairston when he was stopped at 3 a.m. on July 5 in Raleigh, N.C. The two athletes said they swapped cars at a local store. Gordon told police that he had a few drinks with vodka.

Not satisfied with the veteran backups on the roster behind starter E.J. Manuel, the Buffalo Bills waived quarterback Thad Lewis just a day after severing ties with Dennis Dixon. They signed career backup quarterback Jordan Palmer.

Buffalo also placed linebacker Kiko Alonso on the reserve/non-football injury list. He had reconstructive knee surgery in July after tearing the ACL during an offseason workout and is not expected to play this season.

The Chicago Bears released 30-year-old quarterbak Jordan Palmer during the weekend after deciding to go with Jimmy Clausen. Palmer has not thrown a pass in the NFL since 2010 and only 15 in his career.

The Tennessee Titans signed quarterback Dominique Davis to the roster to provide depth at the position for their final preseason game.

Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant is looking for a new contract, but if he doesn't get one by the start of the regular season, he'll put it on hold.

Bryant enters the final year of his rookie contract. He is scheduled to make $1.78 million this season.

Three more players were released by the Kansas City Chiefs: offensive tackle Ryan McKee, cornerback Kevin Rutland and cornerback Damond Smith.

The Chiefs released 11 players Monday to pare down their 90-man training camp roster.

In order to reach the NFL mandated 75-man roster limit, the St. Louis Rams announced four transactions.

Quarterback Sam Bradford and center Demetrius Rhaney were placed on injured reserve. The team also waived DE Sammy Brown and S Matt Daniels.

Bradford was injured in Saturday's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. An MRI disclosed he tore the in his left knee.

The Cincinnati Bengals trimmed their roster to reach the 75-player limit mandated by the NFL.

Quarterback Matt Scott, wide receiver Jasper Collins, linebacker James Davidson and second-year tight end Kevin Brock were released by the team. Linebacker JK Schaffer and cornerback LaVelle Westbrooks were waived/injured.

In need of a kicker with Matt Prater facing a four-game suspension, the Denver Broncos acquired Brandon McManus from the New York Giants.

The Broncos sent a conditional seventh-round draft pick for the right to McManus, an undrafted free agent from Temple.

At least Brady Quinn has a job with Fox.

The veteran quarterback, who signed with the Miami Dolphins two weeks ago, announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he had been released.

Tight end Mike Higgins was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday.

Higgins, a third-year veteran from Nebraska-Omaha, signed July 28, on the eve of training camp, after a workout at Minnesota-Mankato for team officials.

Running backs Jordan Hall and Miguel Maysonet were among the Pittsburgh Steelers' first wave of roster cuts. With Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount still facing potential punishment after last week's arrest on marijuana possession, the Steelers still have backfield depth consisting of rookie Dri Archer, Tauren Poole, Josh Harris and Stephen Houston.

The Carolina Panthers reached the roster deadline of 75 players by placing wide receiver De'Andre Presley on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list and quarterback Matt Blanchard, tight end D.C. Jefferson and center Kevin Matthews on injured reserve.

The San Diego Chargers made five roster moves to reach the league-mandated 75-man limit.

The Chargers placed cornerback Marcus Cromartie and defensive linemen Kwame Geathers and Ricky Tjong-a-Tjoe on injured reserve. San Diego also placed guard-tackle Jeromey Clary on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and released cornerback Brandon Ghee.

---The New York Giants placed safety Cooper Taylor and wide receiver Marcus Harris on injured reserve and waived 13 other players to get down to the mandated NFL limit of 75 players.

---The Indianapolis Colts reached the league-required 75-man roster by placing running backs Vick Ballard and Deji Karim and tackle Ulrick John on injured reserve. Fullback Stanley Havili was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
