[December 03, 2014]  LINCOLN - A huge crowd gathered at the Mount Pulaski High School gymnasium Tuesday evening to honor the late Coach Ed Butkovich.

As the plaque presentation began Mrs. Butkovich entered the gymnasium surrounded by family and players who all played for the legendary coach. A standing ovation proceeded as the crowd recognized this was indeed a long overdue moment.

After an emotional moment Mrs. Butkovich took the microphone to say a few words and offer her heart-felt appreciation. Following the plaque presentation, Superintendent Todd Hamm unveiled the new sign hanging beneath the scoreboard that reads "Ed Butkovich Gymnasium."

A crowd also gathered in the school cafeteria for cake and fellowship following the Toppers 62-40 loss to Warrensburg-Latham.

More on the gym dedication and the game coming in tomorrow's edition.
