LCHS Speech Team takes 6th at Bloomington invitational

[December 11, 2014]  BLOOMINGTON - The LCHS Speech Team continued their season Saturday at the Bloomington Invitational placing 6th of the 19 teams and taking five tournament championships.

Winners in their respective events were sophomore Claire Conrady in both varsity Dramatic Interpretation and Original Comedy; juniors Zac McCray and Braden Tanner in varsity Humorous Duet Acting; Tanner and freshman Justin Woods in varsity Dramatic Duet Acting; and junior Lena Stapleton in junior varsity Dramatic Interpretation.



"We are so incredibly proud of the team; despite losing members due to illness and other choices, the ones who remain are sturdy, hard-working and diligent, and it is paying off," said head coach Jennifer Keith.

"Thirteen of the 15 events we entered were finalists, so that's a great showing for us," said Wyatt Phillis, assistant speech coach.

Additional finalists in varsity events were: McCray and Conrady, 3rd in DDA; McCray, 3rd in DI; sophomore Belle Smith, 4th in Oratorical Declamation.

Finalists in the junior varsity categories were: Smith, 4th in Informative Speaking; freshman Zak Luken and Stapleton, 3rd in DDA; sophomore Reagen Tibbs, 2nd in Extemporaneous Speaking; sophomores Caleb White and Jake Berglin, 4th in HDA; and Luken, 6th in Radio Speaking.

The team travels to Normal Community this Saturday for a 14-team tournament.
