[December 19, 2014]  Dec 18 (The Sports Xchange) - Starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury tested negative for mumps and is cleared to play on Thursday night for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Colorado Avalanche.

Penguins center Sidney Crosby missed the past three games because of the mumps but participated in the team's morning skate Thursday.

New Jersey Devils rookie defenseman Damon Severson is expected to miss four to five weeks with a hairline fracture in his ankle.

The 20-year-old Severson was injured during the Devils' 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Islanders on Monday night and sat out Tuesday night's 2-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

The Nashville Predators waived left winger Viktor Stalberg on Thursday, but he could join their AHL affiliate in Milwaukee if he goes unclaimed by another team.

Stalberg has struggled to stay healthy this season. He suffered an upper-body injury during training camp and then hurt a knee while playing in the AHL for the Admirals in November.

Add defenseman Mark Stuart to the Winnipeg Jets' injury list. Coach Paul Maurice said Thursday after practice that Stuart has a lower-body injury that will prevent him from returning until February.

With a shortage of defensemen on the roster because of injuries, the Jets acquired Jay Harrison from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for the Ottawa Senators' sixth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft that Winnipeg obtained in the previous year's draft.

The Minnesota Wild reassigned goaltender John Curry and forward Brett Sutter to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.

Curry, 30, was recalled on Wednesday but did not appear in the Wild's 3-2 overtime loss to Boston. Sutter, 27, was recalled on Monday and had one assist and four penalty minutes in two games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent right winger Brandon Kozun to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on Thursday.

Kozun, 24, has seen action in six games for the Maple Leafs this season and has one assist.

The Toronto Maple Leafs activated defenseman Roman Polak from injured reserve.

Polak, 28, suffered a knee injury on Nov. 21. He has five points and 10 penalty minutes in 21 games this season. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
