NHL roundup: Three more Pens tested for mumps

Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Brandon Sutter and Steve Downie and goaltender Thomas Greiss were sent back home from Florida to be tested for mumps.

General manager Jim Rutherford said Monday the three returned to Pittsburgh. They were with the Penguins on the trip and will be placed in isolation pending test results.

The Penguins play at the Florida Panthers on Monday night.

Penguins center Sidney Crosby, winger Beau Bennett and defenseman Olli Maatta have already dealt with the illness, which has affected more than a dozen players across the league over the past month.

The Penguins recalled goaltender Jeff Zatkoff from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League to serve as the backup goalie to Marc-Andre Fleury.

"I think I'm becoming a medical expert," coach Mike Johnston said. "I don't really want to be."

---The Washington Capitals recalled left winger Aaron Volpatti and center Andre Burakovsky from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Volpatti, who had been assigned to Hershey on a long-term injury/illness exception conditioning loan, will return to the Capitals' injured nonroster list and long-term injury list.

Volpatti, 29, has missed 27 games with Washington this season with an upper-body injury. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound Volpatti appeared in three games with the Bears this season. He tallied 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) and 97 penalty minutes in 64 career AHL games with Manitoba and Hershey.

Burakovsky, 19, has appeared in 26 games with the Capitals this season.

---The Arizona Coyotes recalled defenseman Brandon Gormley from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

The 22-year-old native of Murray River, Prince Edward Island has registered one goal and four penalty minutes in six games with the Coyotes this season. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound Gormley has recorded one goal and two assists in nine games with the Pirates.

Gormley was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (13th overall) in the 2010 draft.
