[February 03, 2014]  SPRINGFIELD -- Do you know someone who shows extraordinary courage? Someone with devotion to a greater cause? Someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty? Your area Red Cross knows it’s important to recognize people whose commitment and courage make a difference. That’s why, every year, the Red Cross honors those who stand out in a crowd.

The ninth annual American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast, presented by Bank of Springfield, will take place on April 25 at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield, and the Capital Area Chapter is currently seeking nominations from the community.

In particular, the Red Cross is seeking nominations in the following nine categories:

  • Youth Hero

  • Military Hero

  • Public Safety Hero

  • Senior Hero

  • Education Hero

  • Community Hero

  • Workplace Hero

  • Civic Hero

  • Healthcare Hero

Applications will be reviewed and at least one recipient will be recognized in each category. Nominees must either live or work in Sangamon, Christian, Logan, Menard, Macoupin, Montgomery, Sangamon or Shelby County. Local heroic acts must have taken place within the last 18 months to be eligible, unless the nomination is for a lifetime of service.

How to nominate: Call 217-787-7602 to request a printed form, or nominate a hero online by visiting arcillinois.org/springfieldheroes. Complete the nomination and return it no later than March 1.
