Wolverines split pair on eighth-grade night

[January 24, 2014]  West Lincoln-Broadwell hosted Springfield Little Flower on Wednesday night to end their regular season.

In the seventh-grade game, WLB (7-10) won 54-38. Kaden Froebe led all scorers with 20 points, while Kameron Whiteman netted 10. Also scoring for the Wolverines were Dreyden Pozsgai, nine; Blain Robbins, seven; Justin Long, four; and Payton Batley and Shane Shumard with two each.

The seventh-grade Wolverines now move on to postseason play at the Delavan Regional, with a 9 a.m. Saturday contest with their in-town rival, the Panthers of Chester-East Lincoln.

In the nightcap Wednesday, the WLB eighth grade (9-7) fell 47-45. Jack Eimer led the Wolverines with 15 points while Zach Morris added 13. Also scoring for WLB were Froebe with 12 and Carter McCraith with five.

Although there was no school Thursday, WLB was scheduled to play at 6 p.m. in the Logan County Conference third-place game versus Mount Pulaski. Then the Wolverines move on to the Normal Calvary Regional, with a first-round game yet to be determined.

In between games Wednesday night, the five eighth-grade boys and one cheerleader, Joy Chi, were honored and recognized along with their parents.

Coaches Biggs and Horn wish the teams the best of luck and thank Jake McCray, Carter McCraith, Blake Jones, Jack Eimer and Zach Morris for their hard work and dedication to the Wolverine basketball program.
