[July 03, 2014]  LINCOLN - The City of Lincoln is pleased to announce it has redesigned its municipal website and will be transitioning to a new domain name.

The new website (http://www.lincolnil.gov/) incorporates a cleaner, simpler, more straightforward approach that is adaptable to mobile devices such as a smart phone or a tablet. There are several new features including a new search tool that makes it easier to find the information a website visitor may be looking for right at the top of the page. There is a new, streamlined menu structure that breaks down the city into the areas where you can find information including an "I want to..." link. The menu also hovers at the top while you scroll down making it easy to switch to another page.

The City of Lincoln strives for transparency with its citizens so information is that is commonly asked for by people is easy to find. This information includes Freedom of Information Act directions, meeting minutes, salaries for employees, and financial audits.

The new website makes it easier for City departments to add information to their own pages within the site, so the website will be regularly updated and informational. The City will continue to add more information as the website is rolled out, so residents and visitors are encouraged to check the site often for updates.

The new domain of lincolnil.gov is much easier and faster to type. The City will slowly phase out the longer and complex domain name of "cityoflincoln-il.gov" over the next year. Included in the phase out of the prior name will be the switching all of City email addresses to the new domain name.

[Text received; MAYOR KEITH SNYDER, CITY OF LINCOLN]
