[July 19, 2014]  LINCOLN — Jessica Mayo, 92, of Lincoln, passed away July 13, 2014 at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.

Visitation: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington

Service: Memorial Mass will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. also at the church.

Obituary

Jessica Mayo, 92, of Lincoln, passed away July 13, 2014 at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A time of visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington, IL. A memorial mass will be held at 6 p.m. also at the church. Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln, IL. has been entrusted with her care.

Jessica was born June 08, 1922 in Clint, TX, the daughter of Gregorio N. Garcia Jr. and Maria (Vasquez) Garcia. She was the granddaughter of Captain Gregorio Nacianceno Garcia Sr. Both her grandfather and her father played an important role in the early politics of San Elizario, TX. Her father was the first mayor of San Elizario. She married Robert W. Mayo in Oakland, CA., on November 20, 1944. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1988 in El Paso, TX.

She worked for Western Union during WW II. Jessica did extensive volunteer work including volunteering as a translator for McLean County and volunteering at McLean County Nursing Home. She received an award from the East Central Area Agency on Aging naming her as the McLean County Volunteer of the Year for 2001. She also received special recognition from LIFE-CIL for 1988-1999.

Funeral Directors

Surviving are her sons Gregory C. Mayo (Bonnie) of Lincoln, and Robert L. Mayo (Janice) of Forrest; her foster son Ron Anderson (Mary) of Bloomington; her grandson Michael Mayo (Donna) of Aiken, SC; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings, and her grandson Robert Mayo.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bloomington, IL.
