[July 19, 2014]  LINCOLN - Since the Lincoln Public Library couldn’t take the young readers in its summer reading program “Paws to Read” to the zoo, LPL brought the zoo to the library. Silly Safaris from Indianapolis brought a zoo’s worth of animals to the library annex Thursday morning to entertain and educate the young readers.

Thursday’s ringmaster, Lemur Levi, serves as Master of Ceremony for one of five shows that Silly Safaris has traveling the country from New York to Missouri. Levi’s aim is to keep the young readers entertained with a fast paced and very funny explanation of his animal friends, and to educate them about his animal charges.

All eyes in the audience, kids and parents, were on Levi while he introduced them to the world’s largest owl, a Eurasian eagle owl, as well as a legless lizard, an armadillo, and a very long boa constrictor. The full house was fascinated.

Thursday of next week marks the final show of the summer for the “Paws to Read” program. Contact the library staff for information and to register, Youth Services (217) 732-5732.
