Christian Village residents have onsite option for wound care

[July 25, 2014]  LINCOLN - The Christian Village has made special arrangements to provide topnotch care for residents’ wounds. They have contracted with Vohra Post-Acute Physicians to provide high quality treatment of wounds onsite at The Christian Village.

“We started 2014 with several referrals for serious wounds,” noted Vicki Poertner, Director of Nursing at The Christian Village. “We were determined to find a way to offer wound care treatment at a higher level so residents wouldn’t have to travel to Bloomington or Springfield for wound clinic appointments. Those out-of-town appointments often caused residents to miss therapy time which would have allowed them to return home sooner.”

“Dr. Mihaela Stancu of Vohra Post-Acute Physicians responded to our residents’ needs,” Poertner said. “She conducts weekly bedside rounds with our nursing staff to help eliminate wound-related complications and hospitalizations.”

Stancu evaluates the resident and prescribes a treatment plan. She is often able to provide care at the bedside, eliminating the need for transporting the resident to a hospital or clinic.

“Our goal is to reduce infections and decrease wound healing time,” Poertner added.

Stancu earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Universitatea Din Craiova, Romania, She did her residencies in both Romania and the United States.

“Dr. Stancu has done an amazing job already,” noted Administrator Jo Hilliard. “We couldn’t be happier with her care and bedside manner.”
