Met Singer Comes to Lincoln’s First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Aug. 10

[July 28, 2014]  LINCOLN - After signing a contract to perform at the Metropolitan Opera next season, renowned American tenor Harold Meers will visit Lincoln, Illinois on Sunday, August 10 at 5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church.

Meers is scheduled to sing the role of Rodolfo in the Met’s production of Puccini’s La Boheme. He comes to Lincoln on Aug. 10 with his wife, soprano Sandy DeAthos-Meers.

Sandy is also well known in musical circles. She soon will perform with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and with opera companies in Texas and Montana. In addition to pursing an active performance career, Sandy DeAthos-Meers teaches voice at Illinois Wesleyan University.

During their appearance in Lincoln, the couple will sing operatic selections from Puccini and Leoncavallo as well as musical theater selections and sacred songs and duets.

The concert is free and open to the public. A free will offering will be collected and sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Lincoln’s First Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Pekin and Ottawa streets.
