Discovery Camp Underway at the Atlanta Public Library - Childrens art show today and Saturday
Space Still Available for Music and Theatre Weeks
 

[June 13, 2014]  ATLANTA - The Atlanta Public Library’s Arts Discovery Camp kicked off on June 9 with 32 young people attending visual arts week.  They are learning a variety of artistic techniques and concepts, as well as studying famous artists like Salvador Dali, Georgia O’Keefe, Vasily Kandinsky, Alexander Calder and Dale Chihuly while creating original art that mimics the style of these artists.  A display of the children’s work will be held at the Library on Friday, June 13 from 4:30-6:30 and Saturday, June 14 from 9:00am-3:00pm.

Camp continues from June 16-20 and July 21-25, with a focus on music and theatre.  Andrew Roistein, teaching artist and bass player from the New York Philharmonic will head up Music Week (June), leading students in a variety of activities, including composing their own music, learning a variety of small percussion instruments, performing on the recorder, and performing in concert with him for parents and other community members. 

During Theatre Week (July), Jean Kerr from Illinois Wesleyan University will work with Camp participants to adapt original stories for the stage, build their own props, sets and costumes, and perform before a live audience. 

Limited space is still available for Music and Theatre weeks.  Parents interested in having their child/children attend may pick up a registration form at the Library or send an email to [e-mail] to request one.
