[June 18, 2014]  June 15 (The Sports Xchange) - Former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent was released from jail on Sunday, according to the Dallas County sheriff's office.

Brent, 26, was convicted of intoxication manslaughter in January. In December 2012, Brent was the driver in a car crash killed his friend and teammate, Jerry Brown. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years' probation.

Former NFL running back Rodney Thomas died on Saturday. He was 41.

Thomas died in his hometown of Groveton, Texas, at about 7 p.m. Saturday, according to Trinity County Justice of the Peace Rod Blair. The cause of death will not be determined until an autopsy is completed.

Thomas was a third-round draft choice of the Houston Oilers in 1995 out of Texas A&M. He rushed for 947 yards with five touchdowns his rookie season.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder said he understands that he may be No. 3 on the depth chart when the season starts.

Veteran Matt Cassel is No. 1 on the depth chart and rookie Teddy Bridgewater is also getting more reps in practice than Ponder, the incumbent starter.

Ponder was a first-round draft choice in 2011.

"We'll see how it plays out once it goes to training camp," Ponder said, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, "but obviously there's an agenda to try to get Teddy ready, and Cassel's the starter right now."
