Electric Vehicle’s invade Logan County on annual road trip

Heineman says a few words about the Illinois’ interest in promoting green energy. In addition, he talked about the value of the ‘blue highways’ for electric vehicles. He noted this trip had been planned to take place along route 66. He said electric vehicles will be a new source of interest and travel along Route 66. This is because the vehicles do better in start and stop situations than they do on interstates where travel speeds stay consistent. EV’s recharge themselves when the brakes are applied. He said with the old two lane highway that is scattered between towns and interesting sites in those towns, drivers of electric vehicles will be encouraged to use the blue highways as part of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s push to promote green energy and tourism.

Mini Abe was a special guest of the road raely and he even brought his own "mini" EV.

Snyder spoke about the donation of a charger to the city by Eaton. The charger used Monday at Lincoln City Hall was on loan to the city, but Eaton plans to provide a charger that will be installed at the Lincoln Depot as part of that site’s restoration.

Nathaniel Keener speaks briefly about IGEN, the Illinois Green Economy Network, which is a program that is being developed through the cooperation of several community colleges in the state.
