Kent Young

[March 14, 2014]  ATLANTA — Kent Young, 78, of Atlanta, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his home.

Atlanta -- Kent Young, 78, of Atlanta passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his home.

Funeral Services for Mr. Young will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Roy officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery.

Lynn Kent Young was born on October 8, 1935 in rural Atlanta, the son of Elmer and Arnetta Loudermilk Young. He was united in marriage to Sally Givens on September 9, 1956 at the Atlanta United Methodist Church. She survives.

Also surviving are his children: Lori (Kurt) Werth, David (LeRae) Young, Leslie (Rod) Lutz, Amy (Steve) Detig and Deanna (Darin) Crane; thirteen grandchildren: Mallory, Jessica and Alex Werth; Sean and Kalyn Young; Mitchell, Quinton and Abigail Lutz; Sarah, Lauren and Eric Detig; and Brady and Cameron Crane.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral Director

Kent graduated from Atlanta High School. He was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church. A former member of the Atlanta City Council and Mayor, Atlanta Fire Department, Atlanta Civil Defense, Lions Club, Little League Coach and volunteer at the Hawes Grain Elevator Museum in Atlanta.

He was currently a member of his church choir.

Mr. Young was a Building Contractor and part owner of The Custom Wood Shop in Atlanta for many years. He was especially proud of the Habitat for Humanity house that he and Bob Ford helped to build in Atlanta.

Kent enjoyed golfing, water sports, woodworking and watching his children and grandchildren play in sports and other activities.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta United Methodist Church or the Atlanta Rescue Squad.
