How this weekend plays out is
yet to be seen. We have one terrific team this year, and we
feel pretty confident that they will pass their old 1980 standing of
fourth place.
We'll play devil's advocate for
just a minute and spell out what could lie ahead for the team.
On Friday at 12:15 p.m., they
will tip off against Rockford Lutheran.
On Friday at 2 p.m., Chicago
Morgan Park and Chicago Orr will face off for their chance to go to
the state final.
If Lincoln wins Friday, they
will then on Saturday play the winner of the Chicago faceoff at 2
p.m. in Peoria. The winner of that game will be the state
champions for 2014.
Should Rockford slip past the
Railers on Friday, the Railers' Saturday game would then be against
the loser of the Chicago faceoff at 12:15 p.m. and will determine
the third-place position.
Win, lose or draw, the fact is
the team this year will go further than any Lincoln team has gone for quite
some time. We wish them all the best. We want
them to know that no matter how this all plays out, the staff of LDN
have truly enjoyed documenting this historic season. We are
genuinely proud of every young person on the team, on the cheering
squad and in the stands. We also appreciate and admire the
dedication of head coach Neil Alexander and his staff of coaches.
