ATLANTA — George William "Bill" Martin,
Jr., 67, of Atlanta, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 9:58 p.m. at his
home.

Atlanta -- George William "Bill" Martin, Jr., 67, of
Atlanta, died at his home on Wednesday, March 26,
2014 at 9:58 p.m.
Funeral Services for Mr. Martin will be Tuesday,
April 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Life Pointe
Church of God, 601 Pulaski Street, Lincoln. Pastor
Douglas Bowers will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014,
from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Life Pointe
Church of God in Lincoln.
Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery.
George William "Bill" Martin, Jr., was born May 11,
1946, in Lincoln, the son of George William and
Norma Huebner Martin, Sr. He married Zelma Short in
Atlanta on August 1, 1965. She survives.
Also surviving are one son: Danny Martin of Dwight;
one daughter: Jennifer (Doug Gellner) Martin of
Lincoln; three grandchildren: Kyle, Tyler and Hayden
Gellner; and one brother: Kenneth (Vicki) Martin of
Atlanta.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and
one daughter: Robin Tackett.

Bill graduated from Atlanta High School in 1964. He
served in the United States Navy from April 1968
until June 1972 onboard the USS Chicago. He retired
from Caterpillar in 1995 after 30 years. Bill put in
many years of civic service: Alderman of Atlanta for
2 years, Mayor of Atlanta for 11 1/2 years and Logan
County Board member since 2008. His many committee
memberships included: Logan County Planning
Commission, Economic Development Partnership
(Regional Development Council), Logan County
Paramedics Board, Atlanta Historic Commission, and
Atlanta Fall Festival Committee. And, Bill had
served as the Chairman of the Board of Christian
Child Care in Lincoln.
Bill was a member and Church Councilman of the Life
Pointe Church of God in Lincoln and the American
Legion Post 341 in Atlanta. He was an avid fan of
the Cubs and Duck Dynasty.
Memorials may be made to his family.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley
Funeral Home of Atlanta.
