[March 28, 2014]  SPRINGFIELD — State Rep. Don Moffitt, R-Gilson, was recently honored with the Illinois Emergency Medical Technician Association Legislative Award for his continued support of emergency medical services throughout Illinois. The honor was given to Moffitt by the IEMTA during the group's 39th annual conference in Springfield.

"It was truly an honor to present Rep. Don Moffitt with the first-ever IEMTA Legislative Award at the 39th annual IEMTA Conference," said Dick Reiners, IEMTA president. "The IEMTA board felt we needed to recognize Rep. Moffitt for his ongoing efforts to advance EMS by holding hearings across the state as co-chair of the House Task Force on EMS Funding. He has also addressed our attendees at our 38th and 39th IEMTA annual seminars here in Springfield. Rep. Moffitt has our utmost respect and gratitude for all his efforts and support of EMS service throughout the state of Illinois."

"When emergencies arise, our EMTs are called upon to use their training and skill to help save and protect the lives of our fellow citizens," said Moffitt. "As a state legislator, (I) want to do everything I can to provide our emergency responders with the tools necessary to carry out this vital duty to the best of their ability. I would like to thank the Illinois Emergency Medical Technician Association for this honor.

During his tenure in the Illinois House, Moffitt has championed interest-free revolving loan funds for fire trucks and ambulances, critical care transport licensure for ambulances, and most recently, military emergency training and continuing education. Current legislative initiatives include licensure of pre-hospital RNs for EMT-Basic volunteer ambulance service in rural areas, as well as extending the revenue sources for vital fire services, including the revolving loan program.

"Rep. Don Moffitt is a legislative champion of the emergency medical services across the state of Illinois," said Greg Scott, director of McLean County Area EMS. "He works diligently on behalf of the public safety community and has co-chaired the House Task Force on EMS Funding because he recognizes the need for members of the General Assembly to work collaboratively with state agencies and the EMS community to find solutions to complex challenges. The EMS community appreciates the efforts of Rep. Moffitt and congratulates him on receiving the Illinois EMT Association's Legislator Award."
