LCHS functional and fine arts on display at Lincoln Art Institute

[May 13, 2014]  LINCOLN - The Lincoln Art Institute in downtown Lincoln was the scene of the opening of the second annual art show for Lincoln Community High School student artists on Thursday evening. Entitled “Functional and Fine Art,” the displays range from ceramic, drawing, wood working, to metal sculpture and water color.

The show opened with a reception provided by members of Logan County Arts. The exhibit closes May 28.

Many of the items are from students of industrial arts instructor, Jason Hoffman, who specializes in wood working and metal sculpture; and Cheryl Spove, who teaches classes in painting, ceramics and drawing.

Spove is retiring this month after spending a career that spanned 25 years at LCHS. Every one of the artists in attendance praised Ms. Spove for her guidance, creativity and vision in helping them to achieve their artistic goals.

Moses Pinkerton, director of the Lincoln Art Institute said, “The craftsmanship and creativity shown here promises a bright future for the arts at Lincoln High School. We should be proud of the educators and students for supporting the arts.”

The gallery space at the Lincoln Art Institute is a work of art itself. The burnished wood floor, wall colors, and customized lighting created an atmosphere that enhanced the exhibit.
