Wednesday morning amidst cloudy gray skies, the city of Lincoln took on the task of removing the Tropics sign from its location at the corner of Lincoln Parkway and Woodlawn Road.

The sign was removed from its two-post pedestal and taken to a city owned property for storage until such a time as it can be restored.

The city aims to restore the sign complete with all its neon luster, and then find a permanent home for it where travelers of Route 66 can still take in one of the sights that were common in Lincoln during the Mother Road glory days.
