[November 03, 2014]  Nov 2 (The Sports Xchange) - The Boston Bruins announced Sunday that coach Claude Julien was given a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Julien, who is in his eighth season, won the Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL's top coach in 2008-09 and the NHL Coach of the Year honors from The Sporting News that season.

The Bruins have advanced to the playoffs in each of Julien's seasons as coach.

Nashville Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov was suspended four games without pay for an illegal check to the head of Calgary Flames forward Michael Ferland, the NHL announced.

Los Angeles Kings forward Jordan Nolan has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm on Friday.

New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh is out three to four weeks with a separated shoulder.

The Rangers are dealing with several other injuries. X-rays for defenseman Kevin Klein for a left foot contusion were negative. Center Derek Stepan is day to day with a broken left leg.

Edmonton Oilers left wing Taylor Hall will be sidelined for two to four weeks with an MCL sprain in his knee.

Hall, 22, was injured Saturday, when he crashed into the Vancouver Canucks' goal.

The Calgary Flames placed center Joe Colborne on injured reserve and recalled forward Sven Baertschi from Adirondack of the AHL.

Colborne has been out with an upper body injury.

The Buffalo Sabres signed forward Justin Bailey to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The Sabres also recalled forward Johan Larsson from the AHL's Rochester Americans.

The Arizona Coyotes recalled forward Tobias Rieder from Portland of the AHL.

Center Anze Kopitar returned to the Los Angeles Kings' lineup after he missed three games with an upper-body injury.

The Anaheim Ducks recalled goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the AHL.

Arizona Coyotes right wing Tobias Rieder, taken by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round of the 2011 draft, made his NHL debut Sunday. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
