Area Agency on Aging to host Lunch and Learn at the Oasis
Topic will address family caregivers

[November 5, 2014]  SPRINGFIELD - The Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland, in cooperation with Senior Citizens of Logan County, has scheduled a Lunch and Learn program for informal caregivers of older adults and grandparents and other relatives raising children. It will be held at the Oasis Senior Center, 2810 Woodlawn Road, Lincoln, Illinois, on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Dr. Paul Boatman, Chaplain, Safe Haven Hospice, will present “Challenges of Caring for a Person with Dementia”.     (Click here to continue reading)

SPRINGFIELD - October 14, 2014. To assist Medicare-eligible individuals regarding their Medicare insurance options, Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) Director John K. Holton, Ph.D., today announced free counseling assistance is available. Medicare Open Enrollment starts tomorrow, October 15, and runs until December 7. The department’s Senior Health Insurance Program, (SHIP), provides free counseling for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. (Click here to continue reading)

 


State calls attention to the residents of long term care in observance of Residents Rights Month

SPRINGFIELD - October is Residents’ Rights month, as started in 1981 by the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long Term Care to highlight the importance of resident focused care. In keeping with this year’s theme “Better Staffing: They Key to Better Care”, Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) Director John K. Holton, PhD., is encouraging people to become educated about long term care. Agency resumes mailing Social Security statements
Encourages people to create a Secure "my Social Security" account to abtain their statement online, anytime

SPRINGFIELD - Carolyn W. Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security, has announced the agency will resume the periodic mailing of Social Security Statements--once every five years for most workers--while encouraging everyone to create a secure my Social Security account to immediately access their Statement online, anytime.  (Click here to continue readling)

State announces start of LIHEAP Winter Energy Assistance Program
Application period open for seniors, people with disabilities

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has announced that seniors and people with disabilities can now begin applying for winter heating assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
