[November 05, 2014]  Nov 4 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Tuesday's National Hockey League games:

Flames 4, Capitals 3 (OT)

On a night Alex Ovechkin became the Washington Capitals' all-time scoring leader with a pair of assists, Calgary Flames' 20-year-old center Sean Monahan was mobbed by his teammates after scoring with 42.2 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Flames a stirring win.

Trailing 3-2 late in the third period, Calgary tied the score on a fluky goal by center Markus Granlund.

Ovechkin passed Capitals legend Peter Bondra when he recorded his 826th career point on a shot that was deflected by Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom and past Hiller midway through the first period.

Ovechkin also picked up a secondary assist on a second-period power-play goal by right winger Joel Ward.

Flyers 4, Oilers 1

Right winger Jakub Voracek scored two goals and goaltender Steve Mason stopped 35 shots as Philadelphia topped Edmonton.

Left winger Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and defenseman Luke Schenn also had goals to help the Flyers snap a two-game losing streak.

Center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the lone goal for the Oilers.

Bruins 2, Panthers 1 (OT)

Brad Marchand continued his hot streak, scoring on a rush with 1:33 left in overtime to give Boston a 2-1 victory over Florida.

The feisty left winger, who assisted on center Patrice Bergeron's goal in the second period, went around defenseman Dylan Olsen and beat goaltender Roberto Luongo.

Left winger Jussi Jokinen scored his first goal of the season for Florida.

Hurricanes 4, Blue Jackets 2

Centers Zach Boychuk and Riley Nash scored first-period goals, defenseman Justin Faulk scored a short-handed goal in the second period and center Eric Staal scored an empty-netter late as Carolina beat Columbus.

Carolina goaltender Cam Ward needed to make only 17 saves to earn his third straight win.

Left-winger Nick Foligno scored both goals for Columbus, while goaltender Curtis McElhinney made 33 saves.

Blues 1, Devils 0

St. Louis right winger Vladimir Tarasenko's scored a power-play goal in the third period, leading his team to their sixth consecutive win.

Jake Allen stopped all 26 shots that New Jersey fired at him en route to his second shutout of the season and the third of his career.

Devils goalie Cory Schneider stopped 21 shots in the loss.

Blackhawks 5, Canadiens 0

Left winger Kris Versteeg scored twice to lead Chicago to a win over Montreal at the Bell Centre.

Goaltender Corey Crawford made 28 saves for his first shutout of the season for Chicago as goalie Carey Price stopped 27 shots for Montreal.

Centers Jonathan Toews and Brad Richards, and right winger Patrick Kane also scored for Chicago, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Senators 3, Red Wings 1

Defenseman Patrick Wiercioch picked a good time to score his first goal of the season for Ottawa.

Wiercioch took a pass from winger Mark Stone and fired a wrist shot that beat Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard on the stick side with 5:23 left in the third period to break a tie game as Ottawa went on to defeat Detroit at Canadian Tire Centre.

Winger Clark MacArthur and defenseman Erik Karlsson also scored for Ottawa while center Henrik Zetterberg scored his fourth of the year for Detroit.

Penguins 4, Wild 1

Thomas Greiss made 33 saves for Pittsburgh, handing Minnesota their first home loss of the season.

Centers Nick Spaling and Brandon Sutter, left winger Chris Kunitz and right winger Patrick Hornqvist had goals for Pittsburgh, who won their fifth game in a row.

Goalie Darcy Kuemper had 18 saves for Minnesota and right winger Nino Niederreiter scored short-handed for the team's only offense. (Editing by Cameron French/Sudipto Ganguly)
