[November 12, 2014]  Nov 11 (The Sports Xchange) - Defenseman Olli Maatta of the Pittsburgh Penguins was back on the ice in full gear on Tuesday, seven days after having a potentially cancerous tumor removed from his thyroid gland.

However, Penguins coach Mike Johnston said he was not ready to alter the four-week schedule doctors set for Maatta's return at the time of the surgery.

The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled Josh Leivo from the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies.

The Montreal Canadiens acquired defenseman Sergei Gonchar from the Dallas Stars on Tuesday in exchange for left wing Travis Moen.
 


The 40-year-old Gonchar recorded one assist in three games this season for the Stars, averaging 13:01 minutes of ice time per game. Moen, 32, was scoreless in 10 games this season for Montreal, averaging 10:29 minutes of ice time per game.

Forward Corey Perry and defenseman Francois Beauchemin of the Anaheim Ducks are out indefinitely because of viral infections, the team announced on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Kings signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Jamie McBain to a one-year contract on Tuesday, President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced.

The 26-year-old McBain has appeared in 275 NHL regular season games with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Buffalo Sabres over five seasons, totaling 92 points, including 25 goals, and 62 penalty minutes.

Left wing Luke Gazdic was recalled by the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday from the Oklahoma Barons of the American Hockey League.

Gazdic, 25, had two goals and seven penalty minutes in five games with Oklahoma City during his conditioning assignment. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
