[November 14, 2014]  LINCOLN - On Thursday night the Lincoln Christian University (LCU) Red Lions hosted the Bulldogs of Benedictine University at Springfield in the second leg of a Central Illinois NAIA series. Despite a vocal home crowd cheering them on, Lincoln Christian was unable to hold their lead and gave up the game, 73-62.

LCU ran out to a quick lead of 10-5 just 3 minutes in. It would be their biggest lead of the night however, as Benedictine turned up the pressure and stepped up the pace, easing out to an 11 point lead at the half 24-35.

In the back-and-forth battle of the second half, both teams stepped it up a little more, scoring a total of 38 points each. LCU closed the gap and took a couple small leads, but was unable to maintain them under the pressure of the Bulldogs defense and their dominance of the glass.

Shining spots for Lincoln Christian came from Michael Fisher (FR/Lyons, IN) who scored 17 points to lead the Red Lions' scoring, followed by 14 points from Anthony Rush (JR/Peoria, IL). Jimmy Smylie (SO/Springfield, IL) and Josiah Gordon (SO/Springfield, IL) both pulled in 6 rebounds. Rush also contributed 5 assists on the night.

Lincoln Christian travels to Elsa, IL on Saturday to face Principia in a 3 p.m. contest. The Red Lions next home game is December 1.
