Zion Lutheran speech team achieves highest ratings at IESA competition

[November 15, 2014]  LINCOLN - The Zion Lutheran School Speech Team concluded its season with participation in the Illinois Elementary School Association contest in Athens.

Each of the eight ZLS entries received the highest, #1, rating at the IESA state contest.

The eight ZLS entries included: Abbi Montgomery, Olivia Thompson, Caroline Ahrends, and J. R. Lynn in Group Acting; Grace Montgomery, Katie Lynn, and Madeline Steiner in Group Acting; Grace and Natalie Miller in Duet Acting; and Katie and Madeline in Duet Acting. Improv Duet participants were: Abbi and Caroline; J. R. and Olivia; Natalie and Carter Robison; and Katie and Madeline. Grace and Noah Butler were unable to compete due to illness.

Several team members received special awards at the Speech Team Recognition Night. Award winners were: Katie – Script Master; Abbi – Most Improved Script Actor; Carter – Improv Master; Natalie – Most Improved Improv Actor; and Olivia – Rookie of the Year.

The team was coached by Sarah Puls, Lisa Merreighn, Josh Merreighn, and Georgie Borchardt.
