[November 21, 2014]  Nov 20 (The Sports Xchange) - Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson, who is making $5 million this season, filed for bankruptcy, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

His financial troubles apparently resulted from bad loans taken out by his parents.

"I'd say I picked the wrong people who led me down the wrong path," Johnson told the Dispatch. "I've got people in place who are going to fix everything now. It's something I should have done a long time ago."

Johnson had not had an agent since 2008.

His mother, Tina Johnson, borrowed at least $15 million in her son's name based on his projected future earnings. Those loans resulted in defaults.

Johnson's paychecks were being seized before he got them.

Johnson, who filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 7, has cut off contact with his parents, according to the report.
