[November 24, 2014]  NORMAL - The Illinois State football players and coaches had a lot to cheer about Sunday inside the Hancock Stadium Club, as the team was selected as a No. 5 national seed, given a first-round bye and a second-round home game on Dec. 6, as announced during an hour-long FCS Selection Show Special on ESPNU.

The Redbirds (10-1, 7-1 MVFC) will be making their fifth appearance in the FCS playoffs (1998, 1999, 2006, 2012) and hosting their first playoff game at Hancock Stadium since 1999. ISU will host the winner of the first-round contest between fellow Missouri Valley Conference member Northern Iowa and Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. The MVFC led all conferences with a league-record five selections, as North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Indiana State joined the Redbirds and the Panthers in the bracket.

ISU, which was ranked No. 7 in the final regular-season poll released by The Sports Network Sunday, is 4-4 all-time in playoff games and will be making its second appearance in the FCS playoffs in the last three seasons. The Redbirds earned a share of the MVFC championship, their first since 1999, after they defeated Southern Illinois by a score of 44-29 in the regular-season finale. The win gave the Redbirds their first 10-win regular season in school history and tied them with NDSU atop the MVFC standings.

Tickets for the contest will go on sale at GoRedbirds.com/tickets beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday. Fans can also begin calling the Illinois State Athletics Ticket office at 9 a.m., Monday morning, or stop by the Redbird Arena ticket office at that time as well. Ticket prices will be $20 for adults (reserved and general admission), $10 for youth ages three to 12 (ages two and under free) and ISU students can buy a ticket for $5.
