[November 26, 2014]  METAMORA - The LCHS speech season is on the upswing as the team placed 5th out of 28 schools at the Christine Maragold Invitational at Metamora Saturday.

"A tournament with 28 schools is unheard of for central Illinois, so we were pleasantly surprised with getting any of the kids in finals," said assistant coach Wyatt Phillis, "let alone 12 of our 21 entries. Just outstanding."

Junior Braden Tanner and freshman Justin Woods tied this week for first in varsity Dramatic Duet Acting, but the tie was broken with speaker points, so they received 2nd place.

Also receiving a 2nd place was junior Lena Stapleton in junior varsity Dramatic Interpretation.

Third place finishes went to sophomore Claire Conrady in varsity Original Comedy and junior varsity Dramatic Interpretation, juniors Colton Clark and McKenzie Landers in varsity Humorous Duet Acting, and sophomore Reagen Tibbs in both junior varsity Radio Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking.

McCray and Conrady also placed 4th in varsity Dramatic Duet Acting. Stapleton and freshman Zak Luken placed 5th in junior varsity DDA.
