Logan County Zoning Board of Appeals begins review of mine request to rezone land

[October 03, 2014]  LINCOLN - On Thursday evening the Logan County Zoning Board of Appeals opened public hearing on a request by International Coal Group Illinois, LLC and Ark Land Company, (Viper Coal Mine) to rezone land from Agriculture District and Special District to M-3 Extraction District.

The land would be developed for a new fly ash disposal facility.

The property is located one mile southeast of Elkhart, adjacent and north of the current processing and impoundment.

The meeting held in Elkhart began at 7:30 p.m. and lasted until approximately 10 p.m. Due to lateness of the evening, the meeting was adjourned to next Thursday.
