[October 06, 2014]  LINCOLN - On Saturday the Lincoln Community High School girls tennis team participated in the Purple Bowl Girls Tennis Tournament held annually in Bloomington.

In the #1 Singles category, Kena Bere beat the tournament's #4 Seeded Katie Toohill of Normal Community High School 6-2 and 6-2.

Kena’s next match was against the #1 seeded Kaela Mack from Flossmoor High School in Chicago. Kenna defeated Mack with final scores of 7-5 and 6-2. With this win Kena advanced to the championship match. There she placed second after losing to the #2 seeded Sara Magnuson of Hersey High School, Arlington Heights in Chicago 2-6; 0-6.

Two other noteworthy victories for Lincoln were achieved by the Megan Joseph who placed first in the #3 Singles Consolation Bracket; and Melissa Van who advanced to the semi-finals in the #2 Singles Consolation Bracket.

This was the first time the LCHS attended this tournament, and Coach Bere is very proud of all her young players who have made great strides during this brief tennis season.

Lincoln next plays at home on Monday against Rochester High School.
