[October 16, 2014]  LINCOLN - On Wednesday evening, the Lincoln Jaycees notified media that they are closing down their haunted house due to concerns expressed by the Illinois State Fire Marshal. Below is a statement received from Lincoln Jaycee Perry Payne.

Statement from the Lincoln Jaycees:

We are sorry to announce that Lincoln Jaycees Haunted House will be closed for the remainder of the 2014 season. After initially passing inspection to open, the Illinois State Fire Marshal has decided we may not continue to run without a sprinkler system in place. We would like to thank all of our members and volunteers for all their hard work this year.

The haunted house is the largest annual fundraiser for the Jaycees. Dollars gained through the Halloween event support the annual Angel Tree for underprivileged children at Christmas time and the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Latham Park.
