History on wheels at Davis Mansion
Cars will cruise to David Davis Mansion on Sept. 6 to raise money for historic site

[September 04, 2014]  BLOOMINGTON – Vehicles of all styles and vintages will be on display Saturday, Sept. 6, at the David Davis Mansion State Historic Site to raise money for programs and services at the historic home.

The fourth annual Cruise-In at the Mansion runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s open to the public for a $5 donation, which goes to the David Davis Mansion Foundation. There is no fee to enter a vehicle in the show.

In addition to fun and fascinating vintage cars, the event includes food concessions by St. Mary’s Boy Scout Troop # 20 and ice cream provided by Schwan’s Quality Foods. The band “Protégé,” sponsored by Scott and Susan McCoy and Don and Cindy Kopack, will provide music.

The Cruise-in at the Mansion is sponsored by the Car Community Automobile Club and will feature no judging or trophies – just a day of enjoyment for vehicle owners and enthusiasts. Dash plaques will be given to the first 150 participants.

The mansion, 1000 E. Monroe in Bloomington, was built in 1872 by David Davis, a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court who had played a major role in getting Abraham Lincoln elected president.

Now operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, the mansion is open for public tours Wednesday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The David Davis Mansion Foundation is a not-for-profit organization supporting education, preservation and acquisition programs at the site.
