[September 11, 2014]  Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau received a two-year extension through the 2016-17 season on Wednesday.

Boudreau led Anaheim to the best record in the Western Conference (54-20-8) last season when the Ducks won a second straight division title and set a franchise record with 116 points.

He became the fastest coach in NHL history to reach 300 wins, accomplishing the feat in 496 games. Boudreau's career record, including four seasons with the Washington Capitals from 2007 to 2011, is 312-143-62.

---Former Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks center Saku Koivu announced his retirement on Wednesday after 18 seasons in the NHL.

Koivu, 39, appeared in 1,124 regular-season NHL games and 80 Stanley Cup playoff games. He scored 255 goals and had 832 points in the regular season, and 18 goals and 59 points in the playoffs.

He was captain of the Canadiens for nine seasons, from 1999-2000 to 2008-09, becoming the first European-born player to hold that role.

---The NHL announced Wednesday that the Washington Capitals will host the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2015 at Nationals Park.
