[September 13, 2014]  Sept 12 (The Sports Xchange) - Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis was suspended 25 games by Major League Baseball for using a performance enhancing substance, manager Buck Showalter confirmed Friday.

As a result, Davis will miss the remaining of the regular season and eight games of the postseason if Baltimore advances that far. Should the Orioles be eliminated before then, Davis' suspension could be resumed next season until his 25 games are complete.

Davis reportedly tested positive for amphetamines, according to MLB officials. Showalter found out about the suspension Thursday when Davis called him. Davis is prohibited from entering the clubhouse at Oriole Park at Camden Yards during the ban.

Entering Friday, first-place Baltimore held a 10-game lead over Toronto in the American League East standings.

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton said Friday he is feeling "much better," one day after sustaining facial fractures when he was struck in the face by an 88-mph fastball from Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers. He also sustained dental damage and he needed stitches.

Stanton immediately fell to the ground after being hit in the fifth inning. Trainers from both teams came to his assistance, and he was placed on a backboard and then a stretcher. The grounds crew had to use scrapers to remove all the blood from the batter's box before play resumed.

The Marlins announced Friday that they didn't think Stanton would need surgery.

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers was fined an undisclosed amount on Friday by Major League Baseball after he threw the pitch that hit Stanton in the face.
