[September 25, 2014]  LINCOLN - The Lynx men’s soccer team defeated Illinois Central College 3-1 on Tuesday. ICC came into the game undefeated at 9-0 and ranked #5 nationally.

With only two shots on goal in the first half the game, both by ICC, the teams went to intermission in a scoreless tie. LC then scored 4 minutes into the second half when Brian Werchek slotted Kevin Lopez who crossed a far post ball to Silvano Vaz who eventually volleyed the ball home to make it 1-0 Lynx. ICC would get a goal shortly after in the 60th minute. However, LC would score two more goals in the 76th and 78th minutes when Carlos Santander and Kevin Lopez both beat the ICC keeper to seal the LC 3-1 win.

Coach Massena commented, “We are very proud of how the boys came out today and stuck to our game plan. ICC is a very good team and we showed we can compete against the top teams in the nation.”

Next up for the Lynx will be Jefferson Community College on Saturday, September 27th in Hillsboro, MO at 3:00pm.
