[September 27, 2014]  LINCOLN - Lincoln Woman’s Club is again participating in “Operation Santa.” Groups from all over the United States contribute socks and items to send to our troops serving at home and abroad. Last year 10,000 socks were shipped out before Thanksgiving to ensure delivery by Christmas.

Monday, Sept. 29, Lincoln Woman’s Club will have an activity day. We will work sewing socks, writing cards, and collecting items to fill the socks. Please bring any contributions to the building at 230 N. McLean St. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items needed include white or black crew socks; breath mints, hard candy individually wrapped; beef jerky sticks, individually wrapped; gum, punch out foil type; protein cereal bars; travel size toothpaste, lip balm, pocket tissues, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, foot powder, dental floss, toothbrushes, regular size; powdered drink sticks, instant soup, hot chocolate packets; travel size games, deck of cards, small puzzle books, chew treats for canine troops, and/or postage for shipping.

Checks should be made payable to “Operation Santa.”

We have over 200 socks and 500 cards with a personal message ready, and will add to those along with your contributions to be taken to the Bloomington Center where volunteers fill and prepare the socks for shipping.
