[September 27, 2014]  LINCOLN - CAPCIL has begun scheduling appointments for our Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

CAPCIL is one of several agencies in the State of Illinois that offers energy assistance through the LIHEAP program. The service area for this assistance spreads across DeWitt, Fulton, Logan, Mason, Menard, and Piatt counties.

Individuals and families that utilize LIHEAP are grateful for the assistance this program offers. Too often, low-income households have to make the agonizing decision on what bills can and cannot be paid. LIHEAP is the solvent to this dilemma and helps provide peace of mind to those who need it.

Three priority groups will be served during the next several months:

  • Priority Group 1 – Includes households with a person who is elderly (60+) and/or has a disability (beginning September 2nd).

  • Priority Group 2 – Includes families with children under the age of 6 years and households whose existing heating systems are not operational or have been red-tagged by their utility company (beginning October 1st).

  • Priority Group 3 – Includes households that meet income guidelines and households that are under imminent threat of disconnection (beginning November 1st).

The LIHEAP eligibility qualifications are as follows:

  • Household income must be equal to or less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Level.
  • Utility bill must be in the name of the occupant of the home.
  • Member of the household is 60 years of age or older.
  • Member of the household receives Social Security or Disability.

CAPCIL requires all LIHEAP applicants to bring in the proper documentation when applying for assistance. Applicants must bring in proof of income for the past 30 days for all household members, social security cards for all household members, and their most recent gas and electric bill. Funding is available through May 31st, 2014 or when funds are depleted.

Individuals who meet the qualifications can contact Family Assistant Specialists at their local agency by calling 217-732-2159 or by visiting 1800 5th Street in Lincoln. If individuals require a ride to either schedule or arrive to an appointment they can call our Transportation Program at 1-866-930-8212.

The promise of CAPCIL is to change people’s lives, embody the spirit of hope, improve communities, and make America a better place to live. It is the mission of Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois to work toward the reduction and eventual elimination of the causes and effects of poverty.
