MLB Note - St. Louis Cardinals Garcia, Jaime

LHP Jaime Garcia (left shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He played catch April 1, and he is expected to pitch in extended spring training in early April.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Denorfia, Chris

OF Chris Denforia (sore left hamstring) did not appear in a spring training game March 18-April 2. The slow recovery could land him on the disabled list to start the season.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Chicago Cubs Turner, Jacob

RHP Jacob Turner (mild right flexor strain and a bone bruise on right elbow) was hurt in early March. He will start the season on the disabled list, and the timetable for his return is uncertain.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Cincinnati Reds Bailey, Homer

RHP Homer Bailey remained in Goodyear, Ariz., to continue his rehab coming off September surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. Barring any setbacks, Bailey will make one or two minor league starts before rejoining the big league club. The Reds will need to fill his spot in the rotation for at least the first couple weeks of the season. Bailey went 9-5 with a 3.71 ERA in 23 starts last year before the injury.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Cincinnati Reds Marshall, Sean

LHP Sean Marshall's hopes of returning after a shoulder injury were derailed when his throwing program was shut down in late February due to inflammation. He began throwing off flat ground in March and was hopeful of being ready for Opening Day, but he will begin the season on the disabled list. Injuries limited Marshall to just 31 total appearances the past two seasons.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Cincinnati Reds Bourgeois, Jason

OF Jason Bourgeois fractured his left shoulder while diving back to a base early in camp, and an MRI revealed the break on March 14. The 33-year-old was expected to compete for a reserve spot. He will begin the season on the disabled list, and he might miss the first month.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Stewart, Chris

C Chris Stewart (strained right hamstring) will begin the season on the 15-day disabled list and is likely out until the latter part of April.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Pittsburgh Pirates Cumpton, Brandon

RHP Brandon Cumpton (Tommy John surgery in March 2015) will be placed on the disabled list, and he will miss the entire season.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Atlanta Braves Cahill, Trevor

RHP Trevor Cahill and cash were dealt by the Diamondbacks to the Braves on March 2 for minor league OF Josh Elander. The move will save the Diamondbacks more than $5 million in salary, and it potentially opens a spot in the rotation for RHP Archie Bradley, who had a 1.61 ERA through 22 1/3 innings this spring. Arizona will include $6.5 million in the deal to help the Braves with Cahill's $12 million salary in 2015.

Cahill, 27, struggled after coming to the Diamondbacks from Oakland in 2011. In three seasons with Arizona, he had a 24-34 record with a 4.29 ERA in 90 games, including 74 starts. In 10 innings this spring, Cahill posted a 3.60 ERA. With the Braves, he could be a candidate for a spot at the back end of the rotation.

MLB Note - Arizona Diamondbacks Elander, Josh

OF Josh Elander was traded by the Braves to the Diamondbacks on April 2 in exchange for RHP Trevor Cahill and cash. Elander, 24, has a .275 batting average through three seasons in the low minor leagues.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Oakland Athletics Crisp, Coco

LF Coco Crisp will have arthroscopic surgery April 3 to remove bone spurs from his right elbow, and he is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Crisp was bothered by soreness in his right arm throughout the spring, and a cortisone shot in the elbow March 24 didn't solve the problem. He played 126 games in 2014, hitting .246/.336/.363 with nine homers, 47 RBIs and 19 steals.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Detroit Tigers Verlander, Justin

RHP Justin Verlander is headed to the disabled list to start the season because of "concentrated pain" in his right triceps. Manager Brad Ausmus said April 2 that the veteran could return to start April 12. Verlander began a throwing program April 1. Ausmus said Verlander threw from 60 feet at about 60 percent strength on April 1. There was still some lingering soreness for Verlander, who left a March 27 spring game in the third inning after covering first base on a ground ball.

Verlander was originally scheduled to start April 2 against the New York Yankees in Lakeland, Fla., in his spring training finale. With that start called off, the Tigers also ruled out a start in a minor league game April 3. The Tigers hope Verlander can pitch sometime during the first weekend of April.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Richardson, Antoan

OF Antoan Richardson (herniated disk surgery in March 2015) went on the 60-day disabled list April 2. Richardson, 31, appeared in 13 major league games with the Yankees last year, going 5-for-16 (.313) with one RBI and five stolen bases. In 93 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he batted .271/.380/.364 with three homers, 22 RBIs and 26 steals. His only previous major league experience was nine games for Atlanta in 2011, when he went 2-for-4 and stole a base.

-----------------------------------------------

MLB Note - Texas Rangers Verrett, Logan

RHP Logan Verrett was claimed off waivers by the Rangers from the Orioles on April 2. Baltimore acquired him from the Mets in the Rule 5 draft last December. Texas must keep him on the roster all season or offer him back to New York. Verrett, 24, had a 1.93 ERA in nine relief appearances for the Orioles this spring. He spent all of last season with Triple-A Las Vegas, going 11-5 with a 4.33 ERA in 28 starts.
